ICE CAVE DINING IN WHISTLER
For a twist on a winter wonderland, gift someone a dining experience in an ice cave. The Four Seasons Resort and Residences Whistler and Head-Line Mountain Holidays have teamed up to create a culinary experience in an ice cave dubbed ‘The Blue Room’.
Kick off the adventure with a helicopter ride to Canada’s largest, southernmost ice field, where wilderness experts will offer insight about the terrain. Inside the ice cave’s grand hall, guests will sip Champagne before tucking into a five-course menu that includes pumpkin-and-truffle soup and grilled long-bone rib-eye. The experience is weather- dependent, and prices start at $20,000 CAD for two adults, or $14,193 US.
A LUXURIOUS AND SUSTAINABLE TRIP TO SOUTHERN AFRICA
New Zealand-based Impact Destinations offers high end trips with a twist—the journeys are sustainable and include a philanthropic element. This 23-day trip, priced at $120,000 per person, showcases highlights of Southern Africa. The itinerary can be fully customized but can include a private dinner with Nelson Mandela’s former prison guard, and a 4WD wine safari in Table Mountain National Park. Travelers will also explore the sand dunes of Namibia, Victoria Falls by helicopter, and a heli-safari in Botswana’s Okavango Delta. What makes this trip different is that while on safari in South Africa, guests can fund and witness a rhino relocation from a heavily poached reserve to a safe one in Botswana.
GO OUT OF THIS WORLD WITH A RUSSIAN SPACE TOUR
For the person who says they have been everywhere, an experiential gift to space may be in order. Well, a space station at least. MIR Corporation offers a behind-the-scene tour of Star City, Russia’s top cosmonaut training facility with their Inside the Russian Space Program tour. Starting at $13,995 per person, guests can train like a cosmonaut with a zero-gravity flight or partake in space-walk training in the Orlan Space Suit Lab. At the remote Russian launch facility, guests can mingle with space veterans and family members of the space crew as they witness the launch of the Soyuz on its way to the International Space Station. The 10-day trip travel from Moscow to Baikonour, Kazakhastan and back again.
