Chateau d’Esclans
Whispering Angel is known worldwide for its exceptional rosé wine, and The Beach is no exception.
Produced in a magical estate in the heart of Provence by Chateau d’Esclans, Whispering Angel wine has become the world-wide standard for Provence rosé. Made of grapes from pristine vineyards in the vicinity of the Esclans Valley and in the Cotes de Provence region, the drink is the official rosé wine of Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee Pageant.
And now, Whispering Angel is making waves with their newest offering—The Beach—the ICONIC rosé transformed with a forward-thinking approach toward environmental responsibility. What makes The Beach special? This rosé wine is made with lighter glass bottles, ocean-friendly promotional materials and includes a long-term partnership with the Surfrider Foundation.
We caught up with Paul Chevalier, Vice President of Chateau d’Esclans, to learn all about The Beach by Whispering Angel first-hand.
Chateau d’Esclans
ICONIC LIFE: What makes The Beach by Whispering Angel unique compared to other rosé wines?
Paul Chevalier: The Beach by Whispering Angel is much more than a well-priced Provence rosé or entry point into the Château d’Esclans portfolio. With this new and authentic rosé, we’re leading the evolution of the category. The Beach debuted with a forward-thinking approach toward environmental responsibility, including lighter glass bottles, ocean-friendly promotional materials, and a long term partnership with the Surfrider Foundation (a non-profit organization working to protect and preserve the world’s oceans).
The wine was evolved from The Palm by Whispering Angel, and offers the same quality rosé consumers have come to expect from its previous identity, but now with a sense of environmental responsibility that speaks to the current state of the environment and the interests of consumers.
ICONIC LIFE: What are the tasting notes you notice when drinking The Beach by Whispering Angel?
Paul Chevalier: The Beach by Whispering Angel is a fruit-forward and dry rosé, made from a blend of Grenache, Cinsault, and Syrah. It’s great for longtime fans of Whispering Angel or those new to Château d’Esclans portfolio, given its approachability and easy-drinking style. On the palate, you’ll notice a balanced acidity and minerality with delicious citrus and red berry fruit flavors which culminates in a round finish with hints of peach.
ICONIC LIFE: What’s the best food to pair with The Beach by Whispering Angel?
Paul Chevalier: This rosé can easily be served alongside summer favorites like oysters, grilled vegetables, pan seared salmon and so much more. The wine’s fresh red fruit flavors beautifully complement a wide range of dishes, making it perfect for dinner parties and get-togethers.
ICONIC LIFE: Can you talk about how The Beach by Whispering Angel uses and promotes environmentally friendly practices?
Paul Chevalier: Of course! The Beach by Whispering Angel debuted with an actionable and forward-thinking approach towards sustainability, beginning with its lighter glass bottle and marketing materials made entirely of 100% recycled materials like water bottles and FSC certified cardboard.
Our commitment to environmental responsibility is also being demonstrated through this partnership with the Surfrider Foundation, which includes a donation to support Surfrider’s mission, coast-to-coast co-hosted beach cleanups and a dinner series hosted at Surfrider’s Certified Ocean-Friendly Restaurants.
ICONIC LIFE: Château d’Esclans has an award-winning portfolio of wines, what is the history of the brand and how do you stay passionate about wine?
Paul Chevalier: The vision of Sacha Lichine, founder of Château d’Esclans, when he acquired the property in 2006 was to create the greatest rosés in the world igniting the “Rosé Renaissance.” This journey ultimately led to the creation of the world class rosé portfolio that we know (and love!) today, including Whispering Angel, Rock Angel, Château d’Esclans, Les Clans, and Garrus: a new generation of rosés characterized by elegance, depth, richness, and complexity.
Creating this world class brand has been a driving force behind the unprecedented growth of the entire category, which is a testament to the wines we make here at Château d’Esclans. We’re all extremely passionate about creating elegant wines that illustrate the beauty of Provence and sharing these wines with the world. Today, whether you’re in London, the Hamptons or St. Barts, you’ll find our wines there ready to be enjoyed.
