Where to Stay in Tokyo: 3 Unique Hotels and Neighborhood Guides

These three distinctive properties offer a dynamic introduction to some of the city’s most compelling neighborhoods

From thought-provoking temples and tranquil gardens to world-class dining and soaring structures, Tokyo is a city that blends vibrant energy, rich culture, unique outdoor experiences and culinary delights into one unforgettable experience. Each neighborhood has its own distinct character brimming with authentic activities to discover. Here’s a guide to where to stay and the top things to do in each area.

Shiba Neighborhood

Shiba is a historical neighborhood in the district of the Minato Ward in central Tokyo. It is home to Shiba Park which encompasses the Zojo-ji Temple while Tokyo Tower hovers in the background.

Steps from this urban oasis, a hidden gem where relaxation intertwines with luxury awaits. Known as The Library Hotel in Tokyo, the Shiba Park Hotel houses a diverse collection of 2,000 books situated throughout the property. Guests can embark on a literary journey through the Shiba Park Hotel’s Library Lounge located on the second floor Foyer, and themed inglenook across each floor. The property takes pride in preserving the traditions and culture of this region, inviting guests to discover Japanese culture through architecture, photography, and art. The ‘Traveling Bookshelf’ installation was launched in March 2026—a sustainable book-exchange shelf for passing on finished books to the next guest. The Dining is where guests can savor three types of cuisine: Chinese, Western and Japanese. Their curated breakfast buffet offers a diverse range of options including Miso soup, Azumino Genki pork bacon and sausage and a salad bar.

Shiodome District

From a library to an art gallery, Park Hotel Tokyo, located in the Shiodome district, occupies the 25th to 34th floors of the high-rise Shiodome Media Tower. It is directly connected to Shiodome Station and a short walk from Shimbashi Station. Close by is the Ginza shopping district and tranquil Hama-riyku Gardens, an Edo-period landscaped garden which features a tidal pond, tea house and 300-year-old pine tree.

The sister property to Shiba Park, Park Hotel Tokyo’s breathtaking atrium is one of the largest in the city. On clear days, you can see Mount Fuji and Tokyo Tower from the lounge. This art museum in the sky displays over 400 artworks of Japanese artistry from the reception floor to each corridor of all the guest rooms. The most unique aspect of the property is the “Artist in Hotel” project. Rooms on the 31st and 34th floors are transformed by a local artist-in-residence, who brings each space to life with original artwork painted directly onto the walls, framed by sweeping views of Tokyo’s dramatic skyline. Their exquisite dining experience at Hanasansho offers a fusion of tradition and innovation.  The multi-course chef’s menu highlights the best of Japanese culinary culture.

For first timers to Tokyo,  Explore Shibuya, Harajuku and Meiji Shrine with GuruWalk, the world’s largest community for free walking tours, offers an introduction to several of the city’s iconic neighborhoods and landmarks.

Asakusa Neighborhood

Offering the comfort and convenience of an apartment-style stay, MIMARU Tokyo Asakusa Station is an ideal home base for exploring the historic Asakusa neighborhood. Designed with medium- to long-term stays in mind, MIMARU combines the comforts of home with thoughtful Japanese design. Spacious suites feature fully equipped kitchens and comfortable living areas, making the property well suited for families and multigenerational travelers. On-site laundry adds another layer of convenience, while its location is just a one-minute walk from Asakusa Station making getting around easy.

From the hotel, take a stroll along the Sumida River for views of the TOKYO SKYTREE and the distinctive Golden Flame atop the Asahi Beer Hall. Walk to Nakamise Street, one of Tokyo’s busiest shopping streets, which leads to the Zen grounds of Sensoji Temple. After taking in the sights, work up an appetite with an authentic Japanese lunch and sumo experience at the Asakusa Sumo Club. Guests can learn about the sport’s 500-year-old tradition, enjoy a live demonstration, and even step into the ring to challenge one of the wrestlers.

TOKYO SKYTREE, owned by the Tobu Railway Group, is a 20-minute walk from the Asakusa neighborhood. It offers sweeping views across Tokyo from the city’s tallest broadcasting and observation tower. Standing 634 meters tall, the landmark is the centerpiece of Tokyo Skytree Town, which also includes expansive observation decks and Tokyo Solamachi, a large shopping and entertainment complex at its base.

Getting Around

The East Japan Railway Company offers several convenient ways to explore the city and surrounding areas. Enjoy convenient round-trip travel between Narita Airport and central Tokyo aboard the Narita Express with the N’EX TOKYO round trip ticket.

The JR TOKYO Wide Pass offers unlimited travel for three consecutive days throughout the JR East Tokyo area, including select Shinkansen and limited express trains. The pass also makes it easy to venture beyond Tokyo to destinations such as Nikko, a popular choice for first-time visitors to Japan. Located about two hours north of Tokyo, Nikko is renowned for its historic shrines and temples, which are recognized as UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Take the JR Yamanote Line to visit Takanawa Gateway Station, part of a large-scale urban development project led by JR East called the “Global Gateway.” The area is being developed as an international hub that brings together business, culture, and innovation.
