Pine Canyon, Flagstaff: Experience Serenity like Never Before

Pine Canyon retreat in Flagstaff Az

This summer, head to the woods for an escape like no other at Pine Canyon.

When I told my toddler we were headed to the woods, he immediately asked, “Are we going to see a castle?”

I said not actually, but he wasn’t convinced. As soon as we arrived at Pine Canyon in Flagstaff, Arizona, he saw “castles” everywhere. And it didn’t take long for me to see the magic through his eyes as reality.

Set on more than 600 acres, Pine Canyon is every bit the storybook setting fairytales are made of. Rolling green hills, sprinkling brooks, crisp clean air, and acres and acres of fragrant pine trees. There were “castles” aplenty, in the form of custom cabins and villas. Some, traditional with beautiful rustic details, artwork, and elements brought in from around the world. Others, impressively modern with floor to ceiling glass windows, clean lines and gorgeous exteriors.

Summer or winter, Pine Canyon has plenty to offer. As a warm-weather escape, the traditional 18-hole Jay Morrish-designed golf course is sure to entertain. The picturesque scenery is simply stunning, and you may even spot a heard of elk, as we did, enjoying nature in its full glory. (Insider tip: Try the GolfBoard, a fun alternative to the traditional golf cart.)

For families, it’s every bit a magical escape. You could easily spend the day at Camp Pine Canyon, where a water slide, splash pad, toddler pool and adult pool offer plenty of wet entertainment. Order some snacks—like the halibut bites—and a glass of rosé to keep your energy going all day. Play a game of giant checkers or lounge around on an oversized inflatable water animal. And retreat indoors when needed; there’s a ping pong table, TVs, video games and organized activities like family game nights, and Sunday’s “S’mores and Stories.”

Come afternoon, head to the Spa for a luxurious massage and wind down with dinner and drinks at the Club. The views are spectacular, and the PC FIT menu makes it easy to “indulge” without any of the diet-breaking guilt. We recommend the PC FIT tacos which you can order with seared fish, wild shrimp or grilled “Yucatan Style” chicken breast. You can enjoy breakfast, lunch or dinner at the Club along with spectacular views of the golf course behind the 19th hole. And, the 1,700 bottle wine room is sure to please any palate.
