What transforms a house into a home? Is it quality craftsmanship, thoughtful design or one-of-a-kind character? For Austin DePree, the co-founder of acclaimed architecture firm Northworks, compromising any of these characteristics when designing this Utah home was not an option. Thoughtfully named the Summit Residence, this chic gem balances luxury finishes with the soft charm of mountain living.
Drawing inspiration from the natural beauty of the surrounding areas, DePree wanted the home to offer nothing short of breathtaking 360- degree views.
“The landscape and views from the site,” he explains. “There is no front or back, it is sprawling and winding so that views can be taken in from nearly every room and wing of the house.”
“The home’s architecture is all about volume and light—soaring ceilings, monumental windows and clean lines that draw your eyes outward to the mountains,” interior designer Sasha Adler adds. “But what makes it compelling is how those bold forms are softened by the conscious decision to add historical elements and the deeply patinated finishes throughout the home. There’s also a beautiful indoor-outdoor dialogue—sliding doors that disappear, patios that extend the living space into nature and a layout that celebrates the views from nearly every angle.”
The clients– a family– worked alongside DePree to bring about their vision to have the home function as both a gathering place and a quiet retreat. Through collaboration, he crafted a home that lent itself to their lifestyle in the most functional way possible.
“Working on a residential project is very personal, and the family opened up to us to incorporate their tastes and lifestyle, and were very trusting of us throughout the process.”

The home, which is situated on three acres in Victory Ranch Resort, just outside Park City, offers opulent space for entertaining, both indoors and outdoors. Secluded spaces sprinkled throughout the home offer quiet moments of serenity, while maintaining the stunning mountain views.
“Their focus was on being able to host large groups of friends and family in a retreat setting. Many of the rooms and layout were designed around the idea of gathering, hosting, and having opportunities for quiet spaces in between,” he says. “A number of outdoor rooms were incorporated to capitalize on an expanse to outdoor living and experience what they love most about this site – the incredible views and vistas of the surrounding mountains.
Although the home’s highlight is the large windows and the spectacular viewpoints throughout, the house still maintains a cozy, soft feel that makes it incredibly inviting.
“The architecture is grand, featuring soaring ceilings, vast windows and large scaled rooms. The challenge was striking a balance: honoring those spectacular elements while still creating a space that felt cozy and grounded,” Adler explains. “Every design choice was intentional. We incorporated reclaimed beams, antique stone floors and 18th-century European fireplace surrounds to anchor the space with a sense of history. We selected patinated materials, natural stones/terracotta and curated a mix of furniture and lighting that spans decades, adding character and soul to the space.”
Some of the most welcoming spaces in the house include the kitchen, complete with a marble counter and soft ivory-toned cabinetry, and the outdoor seating area, with a natural stone fireplace and plush furniture.
