Flight of Fancy: Unique Restaurants For Your Flight

Deviled eggs PNPK, Scottsdale
The latest dining trend has us seeing double, triple and more. Welcome to the #flightclub.

One of the hardest things about dining out is wishing you could try a little bit of everything. Fortunately, the latest dining trend is here to the rescue! Taking a cue from wine and beer flights, now restaurants are serving diners food flights, too. So we really can have it all without experiencing buyer’s remorse.

Here are three of our favorite fun restaurants with a food flight concept for delectable dining without the hard choices. Ready, set, take flight!

PNPK, Scottsdale
(pictured above)
Opened late March, PNPK executes a fresh menu and concept with great style. And while they do offer wine and beer flights, their food flights are particularly inventive. Think gourmet deviled eggs, craft sliders and bruschetta flights all day, every day. Fun fact: the restaurant is named after nearby Pinnacle Peak Mountain.

WHAT TO ORDER: For deviled eggs that are devilishly good, make sure to order a flight. We recommend you start with these three: Bacon jam and caramelized onions; white truffle oil and chives; and wasabi and citrus slaw. Speaking of truffle oil, order a side of the truffle oil fries with truffle aioli dip. Pair your meal with a wine flight from PNPK’s extensive wine list or try the signature cocktail, Tickle Me PNPK Punch, made with Arizona prickly pear, ginger ale and sparkling wine. Since $1 from every purchase of this bevvy goes to charity, you can wine and dine sans gluttony.

Skillet pizza by FLIGHTS, Los Gatos

FLIGHTS, Los Gatos
Forget about LAX—when in California, let your taste buds take flight at this trendy concept restaurant. While FLIGHTS may have two different locations (Los Gatos and Campbell), the motto here is “good things come in threes.” That’s why every single item on the menu comes as a flight of three—even the cocktails. The expansive menu includes everything from brunch, dessert, Ahi tuna and even meatball flights. There are also plenty of cocktails, cocktails and more cocktails so you’ll never have to fear you ordered the wrong thing again.

WHAT TO ORDER: It’s hard to go wrong when you have multiple options, but if we have to choose, we can’t resist the indulgent mac and cheese flight—classic; truffle; and bacon and jalapeño is the winning trio. From the brunch menu, we adore the creativity and presentation of the chicken and waffle flight—mango habanero; BBQ; and sausage gravy and maple syrup. Also from the brunch menu: bacon beer. This flight features three distinct beers expertly paired with a slice of bacon on the side, changing the way we ought to be drinking.

Fig & Olive, New York City food flights

FIG & OLIVE, Cities Nationwide
Fig & Olive is known for its gourmet Mediterranean cuisine and has highly-regarded, fun restaurants in metropolitan cities like New York, Los Angeles and Washington D.C. Its menu takes inspiration from Provence, France, with contemporary twists on traditional dishes. Perhaps the best illustration of this is Fig & Olive’s signature tasting dishes which include croquette, savory crostini and dessert crostini flights. You’re not a true patron until you’ve tried them all.

WHAT TO ORDER: The signature crostini is Fig & Olive’s signature for a reason. Choose from a flight of three or six crostini (we recommend the latter), served on polenta crisp, zucchini or focaccia. We love the marinated tenderloin crostini with citrus, herbs and olive oil. To end your meal on the right note, be sure to order the dessert crostini flight—mixed berries; prosecco syrup; mascarpone.
