Thought to be the most haunted hotel in London, paranormal encounters happen regularly. Visitors have reported sinks running in the night, human-shaped figures appearing through walls and hallways and drops in temperature. The most active ghost that haunts the halls is believed to be a German prince who threw himself out of his window. Dragsholm Slot Castle, Denmark

As one of the oldest buildings in Denmark, Dragsholm Slot Castle has a rich history and has seen many visitors. This haunted hotel in Europe was built in the twelfth century to be home to kings and royals. However, in 1536 the castle was utilized as a prison, and the third husband of Mary Queen of Scotts was reported to be imprisoned in Dragsholm. When Sweden invaded Zealand during the Dano-Swedish War Dragsholm was destroyed and rebuilt in 1694. Dragsholm is reported to be home to over 100 ghosts, the most popular being known as “The White Lady”, a young daughter of Nobles who became pregnant from a commoner. When her father found out about the pregnancy, he imprisoned her and left her to live out the rest of her days in a cell. Visitors have reported hearing moans of sorrow from a woman in the halls at night.

Karosta Prison Hostel, Latvia

For those seeking a more immersive experience, Karosta Prison in Latvia has what you need. This haunted hotel experience in Europe is like no other. The hostel offers authentic jail experiences for tourists curious to experience “life behind bars”. Originally a Nazi and Soviet military prison, many who were sent there never left. Guests during this experience are locked in a cell for the night and have even endured punishment in the form of exercise or cleaning. Some guests have reported cell doors opening on their own, perhaps from prisoners who inhabited these cells from years ago.

This haunted European hotel dates back to the twelfth century. With a rich history, it’s no surprise that the Tulloch Castle, located in Scotland is home to ghosts, the most famous of which is known as “The Green Lady”. The Green Lady is known to be a woman named Elizabeth Davidson, a teenage girl who found her father with the castle’s maid. While running back to her room (which is now room 15) she tripped downstairs and tragically broke her neck. People have reported loud bangs and creaks in the hallways of the hotel.

The Mermaid Inn, Rye England

This 600-year-old haunted European hotel has a reputation for being haunted by its previous guests. Filled with secret passages, The Mermaid Inn has a strong connection to a group of smugglers known as the Hawkhurst Gang, a notorious criminal organization known for smuggling, tea, brandy and other contraband. Ghosts have been seen roaming the bathrooms and bedrooms of the inn and sitting at the edge of the fireplace in “The James” room. People have also reported rocking chairs moving on their own, cold spots, and bottles smashing to the floor.
