Whistler’s winning experience in the summer.

Whistler is a unique place that dazzles in the winter and shines in the summer. The gorgeous fluffy snow found on the ski slopes helps create the wonderful scenic rivers in the summer, which are perfect for whitewater rafting.

Summer in Whistler is ideal because of the picture-perfect weather and myriad of wonderful options for what to do, where to stay, and where to dine.

Whistler is a haven for mountain biking. There are dozens of trails in Whistler Mountain Bike Park. This park is suitable for experienced riders, so be wary of the massive bumps and jumps; they are for the bold and the brave. However, if a flat, relaxing biking experience is more your speed, check out Lost Lake, which is a wonderful place for a walk in the park as well as a great place for a scenic swim.

If hiking is your way of connecting with nature, ride the Peak 2 Peak Gondola up the mountain. You will find fields of flowers, gorgeous views, and tons of trails. Once you reach the peak, you can sign up for a plethora of tour options.

An exciting way to fill the day is to check out Whistler Tree Adventure Tours. Located in the woods of an ancient forest, the adrenaline-filled course takes visitors on a journey through the treetops along rope bridges, zip lines and tightropes.

Another special activity to try is white water rafting. The water is icy cold, but definitely refreshing as I experienced firsthand. The company offers family-friendly trips as well as ones that are more exhilarating.

Trips can last from a couple of hours to a full day. Whichever you choose, bring a waterproof camera as the views are vivid and picturesque.

Araxi is one of the best places to dine in Whistler. All the produce is grown locally and the chef sources regional cheeses, game and fish. Araxi’s menu is filled with a variety of mouthwatering seafood options. Book ahead, as reservations go fast.

The Bearfoot Bistro is another venue that provides a superb culinary experience. It combines modern and classic flavors, ranging from tasty meats to fresh seafood. Be sure to visit the ice room, which features hundreds of bottles of vodka embedded in the frozen walls. Try the delicious desserts, one of which is liquid nitrogen ice cream made right in front of you by your server.

The Fairmont Chateau Whistler is located just steps from the Blackcomb Gondola and is the best option for people who want to experience ultimate relaxation. The hotel is the epitome of luxury, and if you elect to stay here, chances are you will become a regular.

I stayed in the Fairmont Gold rooms and suites before their renovation, and my room was spectacular. I can only imagine the rooms now.

The hotel boasts a beautiful pool area, scenic views and great dining options, including the Grill Room. Ask about their saberring service—it’s quite the experience. The menu consists of regional ingredients and organic produce grown by local farmers.
