The Tucson-based candle company draws inspiration from the goddess of Tibetan Buddhism, Arya Tara. The company’s name and ethos are rooted in the story of Wisdom Moon, a princess from another universe. She devoted herself to good deeds and compassion for all sentient beings. She reached bodhicitta, the path to enlightenment, and wished to become a Buddha to end the suffering of all living beings. A monk told her that she needed to be reborn as a man to fulfill her wish. She saw the flaw in his logic and made a vow to be reborn as a woman until she reached her aspiration of becoming a Buddha in female form. Through determination, she became Goddess Ārya Tārā, the mother of all Buddhas.
Their founder, Merve, is also a big inspiration and has always been passionate about fragrance–she obtained her Master’s degree from ISIPCA, a world-famous perfumery school in France. This institution was the perfect place for her to learn about the wonderful dimension that scents add to our lives.
