It started with iconic designer Christian Dior, the dames and the dresses. Then a roster of impressive creative directors was charged to carry the legacy of Dior into the 21st Century.

The Denver Art Museum’s latest exhibition, Dior: From Paris to the World, is attracting people from near and far this winter. The special exhibition spans 70 years of the House of Dior’s influence, from founder Christian Dior, to the artistic directors who carried his legacy into the 21st Century. Dior: From Paris to the World is curated by Florence Müller, the DAM’s Avenir Foundation Curator of Textile, Art and Fashion, and features exhibition design by internationally renowned architect Shohei Shigematsu, principal of OMA New York. The exhibition leads visitors through a chronological history of the pivotal themes in the House of Dior.

Special attention is given to the way in which Christian Dior cemented his fashion house’s reputation in a mere ten years by fabricating a revolution in Paris and around the globe after World War II. The latter portion of the exhibit shows how his successors—Yves-Saint Laurent, Marc Bohan, Gianfranco Ferré, John Galliano, Raf Simons and Maria Grazia Chiuri—incorporated their own design aesthetic within Dior.

Union Station Denver Co

Union Station

Before and after visiting the museum, there is plenty to do within walking distance. Skip the touristy 16th Street Mall, except perhaps to use the free trolley that will take you from the East end off Broadway to the West end where Union Station stands. Union Station is Denver’s 100-year-old historic train station that recently underwent a $54-million renovation. This transformed the former train station into an incredible landmark, boasting an array of restaurants, shops, activities and a light rail station.

The Museum of Contemporary Art Denver (MCA) is a short walk west from Union Station and features rotating regional, national and international artists, and showcases creative experimentation through art and ideas.

Larimer Square Denver CO - Dining

Larimer Square

Not far from the MCA and Union Station is the fine dining, twinkly-light-draped Larimer Square. Similar to Union Station, this street is a historical landmark, dating back to Denver before it was Denver. In 1861, Denver City as it was known, was officially chartered, and Larimer Street became the city’s main street. Today, most of the buildings remain intact as restaurants, shops and offices. The restaurants on this block are a culmination of the best national and regional names, so be sure to visit if you love historic architecture and impeccable dining.

Hotel Teatro Downtown Denver CO - Lounge

Hotel Teatro

After a fabulous day of fashion, art, wining and dining, retreat to one of these Denver hotels within walking distance. Hotel Teatro is located downtown next to the Denver Center for the Performing Arts complex and a block from Larimer Square. The hotel serves one of Denver’s best coffee roasters all day every day, Pablo’s Coffee that you can enjoy in-room, or next to the fireplace in their cozy community space, The Study. Their great location paired with thoughtful amenities and attentive service deems Hotel Teatro a top pick. Especially so, because they are offering a Christian Dior exhibit package through March 4, 2019 that includes VIP tickets to the exhibit, transportation there and back, valet parking at the hotel, a breakfast credit and favorable rates during this time.

The Art Denver Co Building

The Art

Our second hotel recommendation is aptly named the ART and is one block from the Denver Art Museum on Broadway. This artsy, award-winning hotel aims to create an experiential stay. The ART features a museum-worthy art collection of 20th- and 21st-Century artists from around the world with complimentary guided tours every Saturday at 11am and 5pm. Upstairs guests will find a lively rooftop restaurant and terrace named FIRE, featuring a fusion of farm-to-table cuisine embodying the American experience. A special Christian Dior exhibit package includes VIP tickets to the exhibit, a welcome cocktail at FIRE, a self-guided art tour of the ART, breakfast for two at FIRE, late check out and rates that make it worth the trip.
