A fine glass of wine or a cocktail perfectly crafted…what could make this spirited experience more intoxicating? A view where you can drink in the city.

Vacation is all about relaxing, so what beats enjoying a great glass of wine or sipping a craft cocktail while taking in the best views of a city from a hip rooftop lounge? Not much! Here are our favorite spots to drink in the view.

Viceroy

\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\
THE ROOFTOP VICEROY HOTEL New York City
With a view 29 stories up overlooking iconic Central Park, The Rooftop at the Viceroy Hotel has an enviable location with Instagram-worthy park and skyline shots. Sit on the outside terrace and enjoy the bar’s signature GG Manhattan made with Woodford Reserve Bourbon, Carpano Antica Vermouth and Angostura Bitters.

Viceroy

The inside lounge was conceived by former set directors turned architects Roman & Williams to evoke the feeling of a vintage luxury airliner with dark hardwood floors, custom walnut and leather sofas, brass accents and photographs of sky, sea and clouds from famous photographer Dalton Portella.

\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\
CINDY’s Chicago
Thirteen floors above Chicago’s iconic Michigan Avenue, Cindy’s, the rooftop bar at the Chicago Athletic Club attracts the movers and shakers in the Windy City. Overlooking Lake Michigan and Millennium Park, the bar has an atmosphere of a summer lake house with strung lights, communal picnic seats and fire pits. Cindy’s exterior is a modern steel and glass structure designed to mimic the train sheds that used to line the tracks that were opposite of the hotel.

The floor-to-ceiling windows and curved-glass ceiling are an interesting contrast to the building’s otherwise Venetian Gothic architecture. Cindy’s features seasonal craft cocktails, many that include ingredients that come from the rooftop garden. One of the current signature sippers is the Jillian, made with vodka, cocchi americano, spiced clementine, honey and lemon. Unlike many bars, Cindy’s boasts a full brunch, lunch and dinner menu.

Lustre

\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\
LUSTRE Phoenix
With city skyline and mountain views, Lustre on the third-floor pool deck of the Hotel Palomar is a desert oasis designed for relaxation. The Valley of the Sun hotspot was named one of the coolest rooftop bars by Travel & Leisure and USA Today.

Lustre

From your perch inside one of the cabanas, enjoy the signature Van Zandt, made with Tito’s vodka, prickly pear, fresh lime juice and ginger beer garnished with an orchid flower and dehydrated lime wheel.

Mr. Purple

\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\
MR. PURPLE New York City
Overlooking the hot and hip Lower East Side, Mr. Purple at the Hotel Indigo features not one, but two rooftop terraces and a swimming pool. The bar is popular with trend setting Millennials who appreciate the craft cocktails and ambiance designed to give the feeling of an artist’s Soho loft.

Mr. Purple

The mixology menu is strong, featuring classic cocktails and unique concoctions including the signature Mr. Purple. This tequila-based punch drink is mixed with cranberry liquor, allspice dram, apple and lemon. For the teetotalers, Mr. Purple also offers fresh, cold-pressed juices from local purveyor Liquiteri.

Mama Shelter

\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\
MAMA SHELTER Los Angeles
For irreverent fun and spirits, it’s time to come to Mama, Mama Shelter that is. In the heart of downtown Los Angeles, Mama’s rooftop boasts 360-degree views of Hollywood, downtown and on a clear day, the Pacific Ocean. Designed by Thierry Gaugain, the six-story historic hotel and rooftop bar is a hangout for the see-and-be-seen crowd.

Mama Shelter

The expansive rooftop features not only a bar, but movie screening area and outdoor yoga studio. The cocktail menu changes seasonally, with drinks appropriately named after Hollywood blockbusters. Try the Some Like it Hot featuring Cabernet, Grand Marnier, brandy, cinnamon and cloves or Mama’s handmade sangria available by the glass or pitcher.

Liquid Yen

\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\
LIQUID YEN Shanghai
Perhaps no city skyline in the world changes as quickly as Shanghai. Atop the W Hotel you’ll have a perfect view of this dynamic city from the sexy Liquid Yen rooftop bar. Designed to evoke a jazz-era speakeasy the lighting is low; the furnishings are decadent, and the cocktails tell a story.

Liquid Yen

For a totally Asian tipple, try the Spirits on the Huangpu River, a concoction of gin, Lillet Blanc, vermouth and cherry blossom tonic served with two black skull potion bottles containing Sichuan chili oil and aged soy sauce that you can add to the drink. Or kick back with the signature Sing Song Girl, a term used for high-class entertainers made with Black Rye Whiskey, Elder Flower Liqueur, Lavender and Green Pea Syrup and Lemon Juice.

CHARMAINE’S San Francisco
High above San Francisco’s popular Market Street on top of the Proper Hotel, sits Charmaine’s rooftop bar. The space is designed in the Viennese Secession style that reflects San Francisco’s European roots.

The outdoor space boasts fire pits and heaters for year-‘cround use. Mixologists Josh Harris and Morgan Schtick of Trick Dog bar fame helm the bar, and Jason Franey, a James Beard nominee, creates the snack style food. Charmaine’s is known for its unique large-format drinks and highball service for groups, which is their take on the VIP bottle service at many lounges. Try the Mister Bigglesworth made of Lot 40 rye, El Silencio mescal, apple mole, Angostura and orange bitters served on a big ice cube.
