TThe spookiest month of the year is here and businesses are capitalizing on the opportunity to turn their lively restaurants and bars into ghostly graveyards and hotspots for the Halloween enthusiasts. One scary pop up with thrilling and chilling cocktails is Black Lagoon at Sunny’s Cocktail Lounge.

This immersive Halloween experience is in Phoenix for the first time and features a curated cocktail menu. Created by bar industry veterans Erin Hayes and Kelsey Ramage, two bar maestros, Black Lagoon sets to bring a lively, festive atmosphere to the valley.
“There are a lot of Halloween experiences out there, but nothing that brings together great cocktails, immersive decor and a specifically curated playlist of goth and metal. We’re pretty unique and I think really give folks a reason to dress up, come down and let their freak flag fly,” Co-founder, Kelsey Ramage says.
The Black Lagoon is where mixology meets the macabre, it helps cocktail bars present a dark celebration for those who revel in the mysterious and bizarre, where guests can transport themselves to a world that blurs that line between reality and the supernatural.

While this pop up is making its debut in Phoenix, it has been very popular in other spots around the U.S. and Canada, even being named Canada’s Best Pop-Up Bar by Canada’s 100 Best in 2022.
“Since our first year in Toronto, we’re always surprised to see the response. Folks really get into it, dressing up in costume and coming down right at doors. We always get such a great mix of folks, from horror and halloween lovers to cocktail enthusiasts, and everyone in between,” Ramage says.

Some of the cocktails featured on the menu are Hex Appeal, which is made with Fords Gin, Honeydew Cordial, Lustau Vermut Dry, Lemon Juice, Seltzer, Saline, Absinthe and Chlorophyll; Nosferatu’s Rise, a cocktail made with Coconut Oil Lot 40, Lustau Amontillado Sherry, Cinnamon Syrup, Bitter Queens Caribbean Bitters and Saline; and Memento Mori, a concoction of Mezcal Union, Mr. Black Coffee Liqueur, Cruzan Blackstrap Rum, Cold Brew Concentrate, Giffard Banane, Lustau Amontillado, Saline and Bitter Queens Chinese 5 Spice.
“My favorite cocktail is probably between the Memento Mori, a savory espresso martini with a touch of banana using Mezcal union & Mr Black Coffee liqueur or the Nosferatu’s Rise which is a bit more of a spirit-forward cocktail with Lot 40 Rye Whisky, a touch of coconut and cinnamon. Both are very different and both delicious!” Ramage says.
Black Lagoon is the perfect place to enjoy craft cocktails and bask in the scary shenanigans leading up to Halloween.
