A Culinary Celebration Inspired by Julia Child

Julia Child’s legacy comes to life beyond the exhibition through a series of hands-on workshops, tastings and creative experiences at Arizona Science Center.

What happens when a science museum turns its attention to the kitchen? At Arizona Science Center, the answer is an after-hours series inspired by one of America’s most beloved culinary figures.

In conjunction with Julia Child: A Recipe for Life, on display through September 20, 2026, the Science Center is extending the exhibition beyond the gallery with its Beyond the Exhibition series. The lineup celebrates Child’s love of cooking, creativity and experimentation through intimate workshops and experiences that invite guests to make, taste and create.

The programming ranges from French wine tastings to hands-on craft workshops, offering a different way to connect with Child’s legacy.

Create Something for the Table

Several experiences put craftsmanship at the center of the evening. During The Joy of Etching, guests can design and personalize their own etched wine glass—a fitting keepsake inspired by Child’s love of bringing people together around the table.

Those interested in textile arts can learn the basics of hand embroidery during Apron Embroidery, creating a personalized kitchen apron to take home. Another workshop, Crochet Pot Holder, introduces participants to the fundamentals of crochet through a beginner-friendly project with a decidedly culinary connection.

For something more rustic, Hand Designed Wood Burned Cutting Board combines creativity and craftsmanship, allowing guests to design and personalize a wooden cutting board of their own.

A Taste of Julia

The series also leans into the pleasures of cooking and entertaining.

A Recipe for Beautiful Cakes invites guests to explore the art of cake decorating during a hands-on workshop led by the owner of Dulce Miel Bakery. Inspired by the Julia Child exhibition, the experience offers a chance to get creative with one of the most celebratory elements of the kitchen.

For wine lovers, A Taste of France brings the spirit of French dining to the Science Center with a curated tasting of French wines. Held after hours, the experience offers a more leisurely way to explore the culture and culinary traditions that shaped so much of Child’s career.

Together, the events capture something central to Child’s approach to food: cooking was never simply about following a recipe. It was about curiosity, experimentation and the joy of sharing the experience with others.

With limited spaces available, the Beyond the Exhibition events offer an opportunity to experience Julia Child: A Recipe for Life from a more interactive perspective—one that encourages guests to step away from the gallery and into the kitchen, craft room and dining table.

Julia Child: A Recipe for Life is on view at Arizona Science Center through September 20, 2026.
