5 Female Jewelry Designers We Love

Add a touch of sparkle to your holiday celebrations with some spectacular fine jewelry from five of our favorite jewelry designers.

The holiday season is a time of family, celebration and perhaps most importantly — sparkle. Meet some of our favorite fine jewelry designers who create timeless designs and unique pieces.

Whether you choose women’s jewelry made from lustrous pearls in unique colors, or the classic strand of Akoya Pearls, a pearl piece from Assael exudes style and grace.

Legendary Salvador Assael spent his lifetime traveling the world to procure the highest quality of pearls, earning him the well-deserved title of “Pearl King.” Assael was the first to bring South Sea Pearls and Tahitian Pearls to the United States, and the pearls he procured were known for their impeccable luster and consistency,

Luxury jewelry runs in the Assael family. Salvador’s father was co-founder of the Milano Diamond Bourse in Milan, Italy, so he grew up surrounded by precious gemstones. His family left Italy just before WWII, fleeing to New York City. Speaking six languages, Salvador served as a translator for the U.S. Army during the war, while his family distributed Swiss waterproof watches to his fellow servicemen.

After the war, he traveled to Japan to sell the remaining watches, and they bartered, offering him stunning Akoya Pearls as payment instead of cash, and his love of pearls was born.

Today, the Assael brand is continuing Salvadaor’s legacy of fine pearls after his passing in 2011. Whether you choose women’s jewelry made from lustrous pearls in unique colors, or the classic strand of Akoya Pearls, a pearl piece from Assael exudes style and grace.

When Rosanne Karmes was just 11 years old, she was designing bracelets and necklaces to sell to her classmates. Following her passion, she started working in the jewelry business after school and then went on to specialize in accessories in the fashion industry.

When she realized that there weren’t many options for fine jewelry she actually wanted to wear, Karmes was inspired to create her own line, and Sydney Evan was born. Her first collection was an assortment of charms inspired by her love of both fashion and luxury jewelry. Her first charms included a wishbone, a horseshoe and hearts.

Karmes was a pioneer of fine beaded bracelets with charms, and of layering chic pieces. Inspired by her French mother and her father’s family in the Middle East, Karmes incorporated the evil eye in many of her pieces, and it became a best-selling staple for the brand. Her name for the brand has family ties too — it was dedicated to her two children, Sydney and Evan, and her father, Sy.

Her collections have been sported by many celebrities, including Rihanna, Gwyneth Paltrow, Gal Gadot and more, and she is a top jewelry designer in our eyes.

Following their mission to make jewelry “designed by women, for women,” the team of women come together in their Manhattan office to create each design, and to ensure each piece is built to last, and for comfort.

Gumuchian was founded by a family trio of female jewelry designers, Anita Gumuchian and her two daughters, Myriam and Patricia. Following their mission to make jewelry “designed by women, for women,” the team of women come together in their Manhattan office to create each design, and to ensure each piece is built to last, and for comfort.

Never using anything lower than platinum or 18K yellow, white and rose gold, the family treats each design as a miniature sculpture. The Gumuchian Honeybee “B” Collection is no exception, which was inspired by the danger of the decline of honeybees. In stunning 18K yellow gold, the “B” Collection is filled with hive patterns and delicate bee charms.

A portion of the proceeds for each Honeybee “B” Collection piece purchased goes to a nonprofit with the goal of saving honeybees, so you can feel good while you sparkle.

Misahara’s founder Lepa Galeb-Roskopp is all about women’s jewelry designs that truly represent who you are. The brand was founded after Galeb-Roskopp spent years redesigning the jewelry gifted to her by her husband. She loved the intention and thought behind the gifts, but often felt the aesthetic of the pieces were too impersonal. Her husband encouraged her to start her own line after seeing her talent for re-imagining jewelry pieces.

Working under the creative vision that jewelry should be an extension of self-expression, Mishara designs infuse personal style with influences from world travel. Each piece is hand-fashioned using ethically sourced gems and metals to meet the brand’s high standards.

In addition to her fine jewelry line, Galeb-Roskopp started the nonprofit True Cause Foundation, launched at the same time as Misahara. Their nonprofit mission is to provide financial assistance, educational access and healthcare for children around the globe.
